Thank you Lotterywest!

A Huge “Thank you” for the funding granted to Mirima Council Aboriginal Corporation by  Lotterywest and approved by the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA.

The Mirima Council building has been standing for approximately 20 years needing major restoration. This funding is gratefully received to go towards refurbishment and a refit of our current facility including external landscaping.

Much of the work has been completed and we are proud to share our “new look” including lawn resurfacing (where we host Wangga (song and dance with didgeridoo and clapsticks) events, outdoor furniture cleaned and varnished, security wire fencing repair, major yard clean-up such as trimming the front hedges, removing pest trees, trimming dead trees posing a hazard to nearby buildings.

Also interior painting of walls and trimming, toilet renovation including painting and re-tiling, window cleaning inside and out has given our Language Centre a refreshing

We are in the process of installing new carpet tiles, Smart Solar power panels for our existing facility and a shade sail for our outdoor area.

We are now in a much stronger position to grow the important work of the Mirima Language and Culture Centre to preserve and revitalise the Miriwoong language and culture in the East Kimberley region and contribute to community wellbeing. We passionately display Indigenous heritage and our work ensures culture is respected, acknowledged and embraced.
